ADAM DAVENPORT - Teaching artists how to deliver exceptional performances

What do award-winning artists such as Halle Berry, Beyoncé, Brad Pitt, Sylvester Stallone, or Sharon Stone have in common? They all use the Chubbuck technique, renowned for its effectiveness in helping actors connect deeply with their characters and deliver exceptional performances. This acting method takes its name from the creator, Ivana Chubbuck, a famous acting coach, and it's based on a 12-step technique.

I spoke with American actor Adam Davenport, founder and artistic director of The International Acting Studio (TIAS), who is an accredited Chubbuck teacher. From 2 to 4 February, he will be conducting a workshop in Prague using this technique.

Adam, can you give us more details about the workshop you'll be starting in Prague soon?

This will be my fourth workshop in Prague. An agency representing Czech actors approached me to introduce the Chubbuck technique, and our past workshops have been very successful.

Where will the course take place?

The workshop will be held at the Vivid Casting Studio and participants can choose to attend for one, two, or three days based on their preference and availability.

Who is the ideal participant?

Any aspiring or experienced actor who wants to take part in an intensive 24-hour workshop over three days in Prague.

Why did you choose Prague, and this specific technique?

Prague is not only a beautiful city but also a significant market in the European film scene, often dubbed the Hollywood of East Europe alongside Budapest. I selected the Chubbuck technique because it allows actors to draw from their own life experiences to portray characters authentically. This deep connection with the character enriches the performance and makes it relatable to the audience. Moreover, acting becomes a cathartic and healing experience for the actor.
